On this very day, there was a memorial service in Remagen at the Chapel of the Black Madonna. Some extra positive attention does a lot of good.

We sought peace and quiet and found it outside the industrial area, now located in the former Rheinwiesenlager. It was a connecting road between fields, at the junction of the Römerstraße and Lange Fuhr. Cyclists and dog walkers were the users of this road.

In this rest we found the opportunity to pray to God, our Dear Lord, the Almighty to bring Love, Light and Peace to this former Rheinwiesenlager and thereby alleviate the suffering here.

After a year and two days, we were back in Remagen. I wanted to see the chapel of the black Madonna. We found the chapel at the junction of the Joseph Rovan-Allee and the Mittelstraße. On this day, it was quiet there. It is an impressive monument.

While visiting the chapel of the Black Madonna in Remagen, I took many pictures's taken. I didn't want to miss any information and at home I could then view, read and research everything at my leisure. Back home, I did not pay serious attention to the information about the Black Madonna chapel and its possible religious significance.
Until someone casually told me about " Black Madonna's ". This got me thinking. Research made it clear to me that a Black Madonna Chapel could be a space of worship and remembrance.
Sculptor Adolf Wamper had been imprisoned as a prisoner of war behind the fences of the Rheinwiesenlager in Remagen. He was the creator of the Black Madonna sculpture. It is likely that the Black Madonna mainly symbolised hope and desire for freedom.
For this artist, the river clay of the Rhine, on which he had to survive, was more than just a piece of earth. He saw hope in it and he gave that hope a recognisable form: "mother with child".
This image brought back the human dimension in these fields of despair and death.
Artists create that.
