Rheinberg, English War Cemetery
8 mei 2023
We were looking for a turn off a main road at Rheinberg onto a country road towards
the old Rheinwiesenlager. However, we ended up at an English war cemetery.
It was not entirely clear to us whether victims of the Rheinwiesenlager were buried
in this cemetery. Given the name of the cemetery, only fallen British soldiers lay
here.

A memorial stone could be found nearby. I first searched for this memorial on foot
and then by car. Probably this stone was behind the enclosed yard of a farm.
Unfortunately, we did not find the memorial stone.

The cemetery we visited the day before was not a Rheinwiesenlager, although the
fields we sought were adjacent to it.
We drove a little further northeast to the fields between Rheinberg and the hamlet
of Alspray southwest of the A57.
Straight through the former Rheinwiesenlager runs the A57 motorway.

In the fields, we prayed God, our Dear Lord, the Alforce to bring Love, Light and
Peace over these fields of the Rheinwiesenlager and cemeteries for all the
sufferings suffered there in the past to the present.

It was a year later, we were near Rheinberg anyway, so we went looking again for
the Rheinwiesenlager memorial stone in, or near Rheinberg. Despite new
information, which turned out not to be entirely accurate, we got no further than
a World War I memorial. It was located just outside the centre of the village in
a large park.
A local hiker was unable to help me further.
